Guo Fengyi’s two paintings, Diagram of Advanced Qigong Practice (1990) and Penguin Gong Follows the Path of  Qi within a Human Body (1995), were presented at Taikang Space, participating in “Bodily Reaction: Vitalizing the Bare Life” during 2023.3.2–6.4. The exhibition is curated by Chelsea Qianxi Liu and Wang Hongzhe. Artists include Guo Fengyi, Huang Songhao, Li Xiaobin, Liu Wei, Ma Liuming, Qiu Xiaofei, Shi Qing, Wang Huan, Wang Xiaoqu, Future Host (Tingying Ma/Kang Kang), Tehching Hsieh, Energy Waving Collective, Yu Ji, Zhang Yibei, Polit-Sheer-Form Office (PSFO), and Isaac Chong Wai.

 

Guo Fengyi (b. 1942, Xi’an, China; d. 2010) stepped into the contemporary art world with The Long March—A Walking Visual Display (2002), where she produced site-specific works in the Yunnan Province in China with American artist Judy Chicago. Her works have since been exhibited at the 2005 Biennale of Contemporary Art, Prague, Czech Republic; 2005 Yokohama Triennial, Yokohama, Japan; 2006 Taipei Biennale, Taipei, Taiwan; and 2010 Gwangju Biennale, Korea. Her works have appeared in solo exhibitions at Govett-Brewster Art Gallery, New Plymouth, New Zealand (2009) and Contemporary Art Gallery (CAG), Vancouver, Canada (2012). In 2013 she was one of two Chinese artists featured in Massimiliano Gioni’s The Encyclopedic Palace at the Venice Biennale, Italy. In the same year, her works were featured in Alternative Guide to the Universe, Hayward Gallery, London, and at Carnegie International, Pittsburgh. In 2020, The Drawing Center presented Guo’s first major New York institutional show, and later the exhibition traveled to SCAD Museum of Art, Savannah. In 2021, Guo’s works were presented at “Phase 3: An Exhibition” of the 13th Shanghai Biennale “Bodies of Water”.
