Artists of Site Visit(sort by last name)
Long March Project〞Yan'an--"Participating in the Project" Launched in 1999, carried out in 2002 and continually developing to this day, the ※Long March Project§ is a multi-complex art and social project, surpassing borders and limitation through the revisiting of different context, historical and geographical environments, and culture through visual display. The project, like the journey itself, is constantly developing, marching through the local and international spaces serving not only as a platform for promotion and display, but also creating dialogue and discourse. Through collaboration with artists, curators, scholars and general public, the Long March unearths the local contexts, seeking to study the connection between the art and society and thinking about new possibilities and experiences. Since 2002, although the project has continued to produce a series of remarkable works by providing an unparalleled platform for creation, experiences, dialogue and displays 每 and in the process becoming a new system of artistic creation, exchange and exhibition 每 several contradictions continue to remain. In the process of self-critical reflection, the Long March has also continued to receive criticism from the outside: As one of the most important art spaces in Beijing realizing historical and ground-breaking exhibitions; and as internationally recognized and highly regarded art organization, it has continuously continued to carve out a space for new artistic activity and experiences within international museum and blockbuster exhibitions, and biennale/triennale shows. Aside from the success of a selection of recognized works and collaboration with folk resources, there should also be more works produced, to which several artists requested to be able to conduct a ※site visit.§ ※Site Visits§ has become a vital portion of the system of production of contemporary art, similar in a way, but not the equivalent of ※experiencing life§ from traditional artistic systems. On the occasion of the ※Long March 每 Yan*an Project§, the Long March has selected and invited: Artists who have submitted proposals to the Long March Project from 2002 until today Artists who have continually collaborated with the Long March Artists who have not yet collaborated with the Long March This group of artists will be invited to Yan*an to visit the site and discuss proposals. Artists travel and living expenses will be covered by the Long March. Currently, participating artists include, Feng Mengbo, Liang Yue, Miao Xiaochun, Shi Jinsong, Yu Hong, and Zhong Biao. At the same time, as conducting this ※site visit§, this group will also serve as observers to the carrying out of the Long March 每 Yan*an Project. Purpose and Plan At the conclusion of the ※site visit§, if artists are willing to join future Long March Projects, a dialogue will continue to be carried on about the project*s implementation, realization, and location. The ※Long March 每 Yan*an Project§ is not the final destination of the Long March, rather it is an extension. Faced with the changes and uncertainties of a contemporary art context, and confronted with a reasoned self-criticism, the Long March has paused with a ※linear§ progression, and continued to think about how to use a large scale art project to continually readjust our strategy, with the primary purpose of constructing an artistic reality through the combination of society and art through time and geography 每 fully expressing the meaning of the Long March. |
