Presentation of the Great Survey of Papercuttings in Yanchuan County

In conjunction with the presentation of the Long March Project 每 The Great Survey of Papercuttings in Yanchuan County as part of the ※Classified Materials: Artists, Accumulations, Archives§ exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery, Long March director, Lu Jie, was also invited to a discussion with curator Zheng Shengtian and Tsao Hsingyuan regarding the different dimensions of papercutting survey project and its social and art historical implications. The discussion lasted over one hour touching upon different themes including the relationship between art and society, gender discourse, and the tension between modernization and tradition in contemporary Chinese art practice.


Long March Project Presented as part of the Nelson Wu Lecture Series
St. Louis Museum of Art

Long March director, Lu Jie, was invited by the East Asian Studies department of Washington University and the St. Louis Art Museum to present a lecture on the state of contemporary Chinese art as part of the Nelson Wu Lecture Series. The presentation entitled, ※Why Contemporary Chinese Art?§, presented an overview of the bustling state of the artworld in China, covering major exhibitions and art centers throughout China including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chengdu.

 

 

Long March at the Toronto International Art Fair
November 3 每 November 7, 2005

In its sixth year, the Toronto International Art Fair is the premier fair for international modern and contemporary art. This year*s fair will present over 81 galleries from 13 countries with a vibrant mix of leading modern and contemporary art works by established and emerging artists. A special project of TIAF 2005 will be the launch of a special projects section, devoted to display and exhibitions outside the usual art fair framework. Curator Zheng Shengtian has been invited to produce a special project entitled ※Art Rising§, examining the dynamic activity and change of contemporary art in China. As part of the project, Long March Director, Lu Jie, will also give a presentation entitled ※Contemporary Chinese Art 每 A Long March§, which will provide an introduction and brief overview of the contemporary Chinese art context, including its development and its future potential for collectors and academics.

The Long March in Hawaii
November 17 每 19, 2005

Interested in expanding ties between the local artists, scholars, and the general public, the Long March Project will visit the University of Hawaii in mid November 2005. At the invitation the University of Hawaii Department of Art and Art History and the University of Hawaii Museum, Lu Jie will give a presentation entitled,"The Contemporary Chinese Art Context: Representations and Responses,§ introducing audiences in Hawaii to the contemporary art context in China through the example of the Long March project.
