The title of the work, ¡°Christmas in Yan¡¯an,¡± comes from a Hong Kong movie which called ¡°Hollywood in Hong Kong.¡±In May 2006, Liang Yue joined the Long March team in Yan¡¯an from Shanghai.In the winter of 2006,she traveled to Yan¡¯an during Christmas time.Using a subjective viewpoint, she objectively recorded the festivities, much like a participant observer.For the artist and others of her generation, the reality of Yan¡¯an is in conflict and contradiction with the symbolic history, geography, and cultural spaces.As the artist notes, ¡°There is a saying that holding Baota Mountain with both hands shows how much people love Yan¡¯an.Yan¡¯an appears in my every dream, and the dream is hidden in the book of history.Now, Yan¡¯an is only a common city, which might disappoint the people who would like to seek a dream there.¡±Here, she has transferred these contradictions into a poetic and lyrical video.
