The Miniature Long March 2002 ¨C 2005 at the O.K. Centrum (Linz-Austria)
Since temporarily stopping the work in 2002, Qin
Ga¡¯s ¡°Miniature Long March¡± has constantly made its presence felt
in various international exhibitions, including, Light as Fuck-Shanghai
Assemblage in Oslo Norway, le moine et le demon exhibition held
at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Lyon, and the 2005 Prague
Biennale (National Gallery Prague), with each exhibition showcasing
the first 14 sites of the work.
On May 1, 2005, nearly 3 years after the work was first started,
Qin Ga traveled from Beijing to Luding Bridge, continuing the
Long March where it had left off in 2002. Trekking across the
snowy mountains, the swampy grasslands, and finally making his
way to Yan¡¯an, Qin Ga recorded each new site he reached onto his
back, completing the ¡°Miniature Long March.¡± In July 2005, the
full 23 images and documentary video of both parts of his journey
was exhibited at the Long March Space in Beijing.
From February 10 to April 9, 2006, the entirety of the Miniature
Long March (23 images and 2 documentary videos), will be exhibited
for the first time internationally at the O.K. Centrum in Linz,
Austria in an exhibition entitled Biennale Cuv¨¦e. The exhibition
will present selected projects from the art biennales of Venice,
Istanbul, Prague & Vilnius. Linz thus becomes the setting
for a representative exhibition of current trends in contemporary
art and a measure of what this term means internationally today.
Other participating artists include: Johanna Billing¡¢Candice Breitz¡¢Tania
