Ways
to Participate in the Long March Foundation
A Request for Volunteers
This year, The Long March: A Walking Visual Display is continuing
in its latter phase of development. Due to the complexity
of the foundation's structure, the abundance of ideas, the
number of participants, and especially the unique and experimental
form of the exhibition, we are confronted with both an extraordinary
opportunity and a great challenge. Therefore, we are working
diligently to refine our working process. At the same time,
we wish to extend a sincere invitation to all of those who
cherish Chinese art in the hope that you will join our team
as a volunteer. It is an exciting time for The Long March.
Volunteer Opportunities
From
our perspective, the Long March was historically a means
to realize common ideals, to creatively resolve problems
through the pooling of ideas and through an experimental
spirit, to value the thoughts of the people, and to collaborate
the wishes and capabilities of others. In the same way,
this Long March is a chance to both experiment and discuss
the issues of contemporary Chinese art and to promote dialogue
about art throughout China. Only with widespread participation
can this Long March truly embody the spirit of the first
Long March. Therefore, by contributing to The Long March
as a volunteer, you not only help to alleviate some of the
pressures brought on by time and other obstacles, more importantly,
you also contribute your own ideas which become part of
The Long March itself. With a structure that allows for
a great deal of change brought on by collaboration among
participants, The Long March provides an experience that
is unique from other organizations.
The
following is a brief list of the current needs of the Long
March Foundation:
1. Translators: Both oral interpreters (for lectures) and
written translators (for reference material, artists' profiles,
descriptions of works, etc.) who have high-level English
and Chinese speaking/writing skills and a thorough understanding
of contemporary art are needed.
2. Data collectors
3. Audio data collectors and organizers
4. Website administrators
5. Staff in charge of packaging , sending, and transporting
artworks
6. Staff for page design and printing
7. Receivers of foreign artists: This includes making flight
and hotel arrangements and accompanying them while they
sightsee in Beijing.
8. Staff to act as liaisons working with Chinese and international
artists, curators, and museums, etc.
9. Photographers
10. Staff to act as liaisons working to increase communication
within the organization
11. Writers for media announcements and articles
In addition,
if your skills fall outside the above listed items but you
are willing to share your ideas, we welcome you to put forth
suggestions. Your participation can be as flexible as needed,
and no matter how you help our organization, we all work
together and your name will be listed in our catalogs, videos,
and other materials.
The Long March
is not just the concern of curators or artists, it is everyone's
concern. Although it works with ideals, it also has a large number
of real-life problems. We hope that we are able to unite a portion
of the people who are concerned with the development of Chinese
art in the aim of promoting sincere engagement with the issues of
contemporary Chinese art. The structure and working style of The
Long March is unique, and the individual and collaborative contributions
of participants are what make up the whole.
